Speaker: Prof Samad Shaik, the President of the College of Paediatric Surgeons, CMSA
You are invited to register for a Public Lecture in honour of Prof Colin Lazarus. Prof Lazarus is an Associate of the College of Paediatric Surgeons of the CMSA and served as secretary on the council from 2010 to 2017. He further played a major role in establishing the presence and establish the examination systems of The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in East London.
Now retired, Professor Colin Lazarus concludes a distinguished career marked by service, leadership, and innovation in paediatric surgery and medical education. His most recent accomplishments include serving as Associate Dean and Professor at Walter Sisulu University from 2020 to 2024, where he was instrumental in expanding training programmes and overseeing the successful qualification of 91 specialists and subspecialists. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the East London Health Resource Centre, a lasting contribution to medical education and healthcare services in the region. Beyond academia, Prof. Lazarus combined his love for endurance sports with philanthropy, co-founding the Eyabantwana Children Trust to support public-sector paediatric surgical services and raising funds by completing numerous long-distance cycling events.
