Journal of the CMSA (JCMSA)
Removing financial barriers; African research

Launched in 2023, JCMSA is PubMed-indexed, DHET-accredited, listed in DOAJ, and already achieving exceptional global reach. As a Diamond Open Access journal, it ensures that the ability for authors to pay never limits publication. Donations support the Article Processing Charges (APC) Waiver Fund, enabling more high-quality African research to be published free of charge.

Equitable postgraduate education
learn@cmsa provides high-quality online support for postgraduate training, examinations, and lifelong learning. It is particularly critical for candidates in rural and under-resourced settings and those attempting Diploma or Part 1 Fellowship exams outside formal training programmes. Your support will help us grow the platform to assist candidates and to level the playing field.
Examiner training
Protecting Standards
CMSA’s CPD-accredited examiner training programmes including examine@cmsa, underpin fair, reliable national examinations. Donations support continued examiner development and help safeguard public trust in specialist certification.
Health Policy Development
Specialist voice in National Health Policy
Including through its Health Policy Committee, the CMSA brings specialist perspectives into national health debates, engaging government and shaping policy that strengthens the South African health system by strengthening the collection of evidence and the preparation of policy papers.

Equity & Inclusion
By hosting admission ceremonies across multiple provinces, CMSA promotes regional equity and inclusion. Donations help bring these milestone events closer to where candidates train and serve, allowing family, friends and faculty to attend.

Mentorship

Registrars and young specialists
CMSA examinations are high-stakes assessments following many years of training. With donor support, CMSA aims to launch and expand on mentorship programmes for registrars and young specialists. This exciting initiative is strongly supported by the Young Specialist Forum.
