Prof Eric Hermann Decloedt
President
Prof Decloedt graduated as the first Fellow of the College of Clinical Pharmacologists in 2011 and, as graduate of this young College, is passionate about addressing challenges in the speciality. He is the Head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Tygerberg Hospital & Stellenbosch University.
The College of Clinical Pharmacologists recently entered an exciting era with HPCSA accredited training programs at four Universities: University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. However, this also brought additional challenges, including the need to expand our registrar teaching platform, standardising training while accommodating differences at training institutions and creating a more representative College of Clinical Pharmacologists with skills transfer to newer members. Although we navigated these various challenges with success, much work still needs be done. In the coming triennium we will complete our Entrustable Professional Activities development, develop and implement workplace-based assessments, revise our curriculum and regulations including the development of an examination blueprint, develop our examination capacity including moving towards convening the Part I and II examinations on a rotational basis at all the training Universities, and grow our collaboration with other African Clinical Pharmacologists.
