Medal for excellent results

The Medal is awarded to a candidate who achieves the highest marks in the written component of the Diploma examination of the College of Anaesthetists of South Africa. As of 1998, the SASA JOHN COUPER MEDAL replaced the South African Society of Anaesthetists Medal, endowed in 1979. This change was made to pay tribute to the lifelong contribution of the late Professor John Couper to the affairs of anaesthesia and his contributions to anaesthetic training and practice in South Africa.

The Medal will only be awarded to the best candidate for the year (semester 1 and semester 2 exams).

The best-performing candidate for the year will thus be determined considering the Cohen standard setting pass mark of candidates from both semesters.

Since 2021, CMSA examinations have been conducted on an online platform. As a result, the questions remain within the secure question bank and can no longer be published on the website.
