Primary: FCS(SA) Primary 2 MCQ papers AND a Neuroanatomy paper, no oral examination.

Intermediate
Intermediate:
- completed not less than 12 months of approved training as a registered medical practitioner, in surgery.  Training during community service cannot be submitted.Â
- Of the 12 months training called for, not less than 6 months must be spent in neurosurgery, not less than 3 months must be spent in ICU and not less than 3 months in trauma/emergency surgery.
Intermediate of the Fellowship Examination of the College of Neurosurgeons - R 17 350
Intermediate:
- 2 written MCQ papers -Â FCS(SA) Intermediate Paper 1 and the FC Neurosurg(SA) Intermediate Paper 2 consisting of single best answer (SBA) questions on the principles of Neurosurgery.
- Clinical and/or oral and/or OSCE and/or practical

Final
Final:
- passed the Primary and Intermediate of the examination;
- been qualified to practise for a period of not less than 5 years, the year of internship NOT to form part of this period
- served a period of not less than 48 months in an approved training in neurosurgery and holds a Health Professions of SA registrar training number
- Candidates must produce certification of training for both Intermediate and Final examinations
- Certification from the Head of Department that the candidate has completed the neurosurgical Portfolio to his/her satisfaction

Final
- Two (2) SBA/MCQ papers;Â
- Clinical and/or oral and/or OSCE and/or practical.

The ROWLAND A KRYNAUW MEDAL was endowed in 1981 by the late Dr Krynauw, and is awarded to candidates who shows particular distinction in the Fellowship examination of the College of Neurosurgeons of South Africa.
Release of FC Neurosurg(SA) Final results
Please note that the results for the FC Neurosurg(SA) Final examination will be released on the published date as per candidates’ letter of acceptance into the examination. If they are available earlier, the C Neurosurg will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.Â
