The SIGO NIELSEN MEMORIAL PRIZE was endowed by the Neurology Association of South Africa in 1999 in honour of the late Dr Nielsen and is awarded to candidates who achieve results of a sufficiently high standard in Part I of the Fellowship examination of the College of Neurologists of South Africa.

Since 2021, CMSA examinations have been conducted on an online platform. As a result, the questions remain within the secure question bank which is still growing and can no longer be published on the website. Colleges are in the process of developing sample questions for examination purposes.

Part II

Part II:

  • Passed Part I or intends taking Parts I and II concurrently
  • Been qualified to practise medicine for a period of not less than four years, including the year of internship
  • A Portfolio

Part II: 3 digital written papers; clinical and oral

In 1997 the NOVARTIS MEDAL replaced the Ciba Medal which was endowed in 1993. The medal is awarded to candidates who obtain excellent results in the Fellowship examination of the College of Neurologists of South Africa.

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.Â
