IT Support Engineer

This position reports to the Executive Director: Finance and Administration and is based in Johannesburg. The IT Support Engineer is to provide day-to-day IT support to our JHB staff and our remote examination sites. Will be required to provide IT support, perform maintenance and solutions to all applications and technical matters on the server, workstation, and mobile device environments across all operating systems in within the organization. This is to ensure our staff is able to access all IT resources they need, and that their network is operating optimally.

Key Performance Areas:
  • Day-to-day IT support to our JHB staff and our remote examination sites.
  • Maintenance and solutions to all applications and technical matters of service
  • workstations and mobile devices.
  • Ensure connectivity and staff access to IT resources that are needed.
  • Provide internal IT support to Jhb office and remote support to the CMSA-
  • supported sites.
  • Communicate with all Site Invigilators effectively and directly via phone, email, and
  • remote diagnostics to identify and resolve reported issues – in both technical and non-technical roles onsite (CMSA Sites and CMSA Supported sites).
  • Conduct ongoing server monitoring and maintenance to ensure an optimal
  • environment.
  • Ensuring that desktop, server and laptop backups are completed.
  • Providing technical desktop support to stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting and Incident resolution with limited assistance from seniors.
  • Understanding of incident prioritization and business impact (SLA and turnaround
  • times).
  • Basic knowledge of LAN and WAN switches.
  • To perform project related activities and tasks.
  • To perform ad hoc activities for other service lines as required.
  • To effectively repair hardware and software incidents and initiate 3rd party repair
  • process.
  • To carry out preventative maintenance.
  • To effectively communicate and provide feedback to key stakeholders.
  • Diagnosing errors or technical problems and determining proper solutions.
  • Managing on site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
  • Cooperating with technical team and share information across the organization.
  • Maintain and update technical knowledge through learning and studying
  • Manage and select tools for projects within the onsite environment
  • Introduce and advise on new technologies and learning new concepts and systems
  • efficiently
  • Support users in the use of computer equipment by providing necessary training
  • and advice.
  • Work on SendGrid to send out letters to our members.
  • Be able to work on HTML (website development) for further development, support,
  • and maintenance.
  • Work on Office 365 (Install, Add users, Admin).
  • Work on Active directory to create (admin and user accounts).
  • Ability to travel required to the various CMSA Offices and Examination centres
Minimum requirements:

Minimum Diploma in Information Technology/ Information Systems or equivalent qualifications

  • Experience working on Microsoft Azure server environments
  • Experience working on domain controllers / active directory
  • Maintain wired and wireless networks, desktops, and server computers
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware problems
  • Setup and install computer equipment
  • Networking, firewalls, routing, RMM, and excellent documentation
  • 2 -5 Years within an IT Desktop Support environment or IT Support Engineer
  • MCSE (advantageous)
  • AppleMac Certification (advantageous)
  • Relevant IT diploma (advantageous)
  • ITIL Foundation (advantageous)
  • O365, Windows10 and 11 and strong troubleshooting skills

IT Support Engineer required according to exams schedule. Microsoft-based with Mac experience. Good interpersonal skills to deal with Candidates’ and Invigilator’s requests. Very good communication skills are required to be effective during exams. Troubleshooting and research skills are required for this role.

  • Experience in using online assessment software eg. Speedwell will be an advantage
