CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure


  • Part I: 3 written papers*, no oral examination.

  • Part II: 3 written papers*; Objective structured practical examination (OSPE) and Structured oral examination(SOE).

  • Candidates who achieve the required marks in the written component of the FC Rad Onc(SA) Part II examination but who fail the oral/OSPE examination will be exempt from the written component of the next examination session.  Such exemption applies to one sitting only and must be exercised in the following semester.


*Standard setting to determine pass mark, will be applied to each written examination from FS2022.

Release of FC Rad Onc(SA) Part II results

Please note that the results for the FC Rad Onc(SA) Part II examination will be released on the published date as per candidates' letter of acceptance into the examination.  If they are available earlier, the C Rad Onc will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

Requirements


  • Part I: - 6 months in a numbered registrar post in a recognised department of radiation oncology.

  • Part II: - 36 months in a numbered registrar post


Part II: -Provide the following documents to the CMSA at the time of application*:

  • Letter of adequate academic progress from HOD of academic department where registrar time was completed dated no more than 6 months prior to examination date. If the candidate is no longer in a training post then a letter from the training centre HoD, as well as a letter from current employer outlining current job description (dated no more the 6 months prior) is required.

  • Summary of rotation and training

  • A list of case reports (minimum 20)

  • Marked statistical review of an Oncology article

  • Candidate declaration 


* Checklist and template in Portfolio document


Note: The full Portfolio, including all marked case reports, signed logbook of procedures and marked statistical review of an article must be submitted to the convenor at the time of the oral examination. When examinations are held on-line, then full portfolio’s are required to be uploaded to the college web-site on confirmation of invitation to the OSPE/SOE.
