CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure

Part I:
Radiation Physics - 3 hour written paper
Imaging Anatomy - two or three spot tests NO ORAL.
Candidates may write the Physics paper at their home institution but can only do the Anatomy Spot Test in Johannesburg or Cape Town.  In order to faciltate this the dates will in future be the Wednesday and Friday of the Part I examinaitons week.

Part II: 3 written papers; rapid reporting session and two orals.  The rapid reporting component will be held during the same week as the written papers. 

Candidates may write the three written papers at their home institution but can only do the Rapid Reporting examination in Johannesburg or Cape Town.  In order to faciltate this the dates will in future be Monday to Wednesday for the written papers and Friday for the Rapid Reporting of the Fellowship examinaiton week.



The Long Case Reporting and Clinical Oral examinations rotation will be as follows:

2018 SS  Gauteng

2019 FS  Gauteng

2019 SS  Western Cape

2020 FS  Western Cape

2020 SS  Gauteng


From the second semeseter 2015 a combined average of 50% for the papers AND 70% for the Rapid Reporting paper is necessary for an invitation to the oral/clinical examination.  Full regulations for the FC Rad Diag(SA) can be downloaded from this site.  Please read through them carefully.

Medals

In 1992 THE RHÔNE-POULENC RORER MEDAL replaced The Maybaker Medal which was endowed in 1977. the medal is awarded to candidates who achieve excellent results in Part I of the Fellowship examination of the College of Radiologists of South Africa.

THE JOSSE KAYE MEDAL was endowed in 1973 by Mrs Helga Kaye and her children, in memory of the late Prof Josse Kaye who was an Associated Founder of the CMSA. The medal is awarded to candidates who obtain distinguished results in the Fellowship examination of the College of Radiologists of South Africa.

Requirements

Part I: - None
Part II: - 36 months in a numbered registrar training post, including 3 months in isotopes. - portfolio.
