CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure

Part I: 2 digital written papers, no oral examination.
Part II: 2 digital written papers; clinical and OSCE.
Candidates who achieve the required marks in the written component of the FC Psych(SA) Part II examination but who fail the OSCE examination will be exempt from the written component of the next examination session.  Such exemption applies to one sitting only and must be exercised in the following semester.

Medals

THE LYNN GILLIS MEDAL was endowed in 1992, with joint donations from  Prof Lynn Gillis, Associate Founder of the CMSA and Eli Lilly, and is awarded to the candidate who achieve the highest mark during a calendar year and a sufficiently high standard of excellence (a minimum average of 70%) in Part I of the Fellowship examination of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa.

In 1997 THE NOVARTIS MEDAL replaced the Sandoz Medal which was endowed in 1983 and is awarded to the candidate who achieve the highest mark during a calendar year and a sufficiently high standard of excellence (a minimum average of 70%)  in the  Fellowship examination of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa.

Release of FC Psych(SA) Part II results

Please note that the results for the FC Psych(SA) Part II examination will be released on the published date as per candidates' letter of acceptance into the examination.  If they are available earlier, the C Psych will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

Requirements

Part I:
- have been assessed on a basic case presentation and knowledge of basic psychiatry by a senior psychiatrist, or submitted a written case history to the CMSA

Part II:
- 36 months in a numbered registrar training post.
- Logbook
