1st Semester 2020 Practical Examinations

CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure

Part I: One MCQ (multiple choice question) paper in the basic sciences.
Part II: 2 MCQ papers and an objective test

Candidates who achieve the required marks in the written component of the FCP(SA) Part II examination but who fail the clinical examination will be exempt from the written component of the next examination session.  Such exemption applies to one sitting only and must be exercised in the following semester.
 
 

Release of FCP(SA) Part II results

Please note that the results for the FCP(SA) Part II examination will be released on the published date as per candidates' letter of acceptance into the examination.  If they are available earlier, the CP will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

Requirements


  • Part I: - No requirements.

  • Part II: - 30 months in a numbered registrar training post at the time of applying for the examination. - Letter from HOD confirming acceptance of logbook.

Validity of FCP(SA) Training

FCP(SA) training is valid for a period of four (4) years from the date of completion in a numbered speciality training post.  In exceptional circumstances candidates who do not successfully complete the examination within this period may motivate, with support from their HOD, to the College of Physicians for a once off extension.

Candidates entering into their training from 1 January 2017 will only have 4 years after they complete their training to attempt the FCP(SA) Part II.
