CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure

Part I - 2 written papers
Part II - 2 written papers; oral and practical.

Medals

THE COULTER MEDAL was endowed in 1997 and is awarded to candidates who obtain excellent results in the Fellowship examination of the College of Pathologists of South Africa.

THE T.S. PILLAY MEDAL was endowed in 2019 and is awarded to the best candidate in the FC Path (Chem) Part I examination who attains 75% in both papers 1 and paper 2. The candidate must attain at least 75% in both papers and also be the candidate with the highest mark average when taking both papers into account, if there is more than one candidate with 75% and above in both papers.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN ASSOCIATION FOR CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY AND LABORATORY MEDICINE (SAACB) was endowed in 2019 and it awarded to the best candidate in the FC Path (Chem) Part II examination who attains an average of 75% or above overall, including the written and practical. The candidate must attain at least 75% overall and also be the candidate with the highest mark average if there is more than one candidate with 75% and above.

Requirements

Part I: -  12 months fulltime in a numbered registrar training post.
Part II: - 42 months in a numbered registrar training post.

PORTFOLIO
From the second semester 2014 the submission of your Portfolio at the time of making your application is compulsory for all candidates who entered into their Registrar post from 1 January 2011.
